Bird Species #43 - Corncrake The sound of the Corncrake was once familiar across most of rural Britain, but agricultural intensification has driven the remaining population north and west, with the majority of breeding birds restricted to the islands of the Outer and Inner Hebrides. The scientific name of this species is Crex crex. This name is onomatopoeic and these wonderful birds can be heard saying their name relentlessly through the spring and summer.
