May 27, 2004 · As a Highland Cattle breeder, if you have a small fold of cattle you will obtain a good carcass, but at the sam time have some majestic cattle to look at which depite the long horns are generally easy to handle. The are easy calvers and can produce a wealth of colours.

Aug 21, 2012 · Dexter's eat more during winter than highlands to stay warm. Our highlands usually calve around 2.5 first time and highland milk has higher fat content since they produce less milk. i.e. more cream, butter, ice cream.
Highland and Angus cross????? - Homesteading Forum
Jun 9, 2006 · I think he was intellegent. He grew faster then the slow growing Highland but I don't think as fast as an Angus. He was probably 18 months old and 1100 lbs. I think he would have grown to 1400 or more. We'll soon have two calves from him, a Jersey/ Highland-Angus steer about 3 weeks old, and one on the way, a Devon/ Highland-Angus.

Apr 21, 2008 · We have a pure Highland Bull and and 3 producing cows. 2 of our cows are pure highland and the other is the 1/2 highland 1/2 Longhorn. She has a more pure Longhorn look. Her calf has more Longhorn features as well....Head, Color, Leggier, faster growning and taller. Her Highland features are hairy. A nice medium length between the 2 breeds.

Jul 20, 2006 · I choose not to have highland cattle either. The meat was very good though. I'm sure it also depends on the age of the animal and how it was done. When we owned highlanders, we butchered 5 of them over those two years. The 4 that were young bulls were butchered on the farm while eating in their paddock. Absolutely delicious and tender.

May 10, 2012 · I'm sure lakeport can advise you on the crossing of Dexter and Highland. I will caution you, however, that if you pasture your heifer calf with your bull calf, odds are she will be bred long before she should be (15 months is the absolute earliest to breed a heifer, depending on her size and growth, but if I recall, Highlands mature a bit later than most breeds).
