I really wanted to use the 4-point star with a blue/marine colour scheme without making it look like a NATO knockoff. The nation is mainly a naval power, and diagonal stripes give off the feeling of waves, while allowing the whole design to remain strictly geometrical.

Was trying to make a nice flag for my fictional country, thoughts?
I would just leave out the yellow stars entirely, the central white star is striking enough as is. Alternatively, change the stars to white, and either expand their circle outwards, or align them on the black quadrants or red stripes, or both!
