I've made it with whipping cream for frosting, almond butter cream or even a white chocolate mouse as filling. I am a HUGE black forest fan and this is my "knock off" version of it. Pour the cherries in the bottom of glass baking pan. Spread evenly. Pour the Jiffy mix over the cherries evenly. Melt butter in the microwave and pour over cake mix. You will not have enough butter to cover the mix completely. Bake at 350 for about 25-30 min until cherries start to bubble and top is golden brown. ENJOY!!

It tends to be a bit sweeter. If you wanted to go the pie filling route, I would make your own with canned cherries. I think the canned pie filling is to "tinny" tasting.

Apr 26, 2006 · Anyway, the cake was nice and moist and was more dense than just plain box cake. I couldn't taste any cheesecake flavor b/c the cherry flavor was so strong. For that same reason I would NOT add any extra cherry flavoring b/c it is strong enough as it is. Next week I'm going to try the same cake mix and use the cake mix extender on this site.
