Vermont soccer was labeled an underdog outside the program, but years of building the program culminated with Monday's championship.

No Catamounts team had ever reached a national championship game before Monday. In the first, Max Kissel completed a tournament run that included victories over four seeded teams and multiple late-game comebacks.

Thanks to Maximilian Kissel, the Catamounts got it done on Monday night. Kissell drilled a perfect goal in the extra period to lift Vermont to a 2-1 win over Marshall to officially win the 2024 Men’s College Cup and claim the program’s first ever national championship.
