No Catamounts team had ever reached a national championship game before Monday. In the first, Max Kissel completed a tournament run that included victories over four seeded teams and multiple late-game comebacks.

And, of course, it was a stunning, well-earned result for Vermont program and its followers. Zach Barrett and his backline teammate Max Murray decided to come back for one more season, to fulfill a five-year goal of winning an NCAA title. The Catamounts had close calls with 2022's quarterfinal run and last year's Round of 16 exit.

Thanks to Maximilian Kissel, the Catamounts got it done on Monday night. Kissell drilled a perfect goal in the extra period to lift Vermont to a 2-1 win over Marshall to officially win the 2024 Men’s College Cup and claim the program’s first ever national championship.
