Stanley recalls 2.6 million defective products
Stanley recalled 2.6 million mugs sold in the United States due to a defect in the lids. In a statement from Stanley, the company said it was “voluntarily” recalling the 12-ounce and 16-ounce Switchback and 12-ounce, 16-ounce and 20-ounce Trigger Action Travel Mugs “in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.”

“Stanley has received 91 reports worldwide, including 16 in the U.S., of the recalled travel mugs’ lids detaching during use, resulting in 38 burn injuries worldwide, including two burn injuries in the U.S., with 11 consumers worldwide requiring medical attention.”

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Dec. 12 a recall pertaining to 2.6 million Stanley Switchback and Trigger Action Travel Mugs because of potential burn hazards. As the recall notice states, "These mug's lid threads can shrink when exposed to heat and torque, causing the lid to detach during use, posing a burn hazard."
