Update at 3:56 p.m. Dec. 12: The National Weather Service in Honolulu has canceled the red flag warning for leeward sections of the state, including the Big Island. As winds begin to decrease and relative humidity rebounds, the threat of critical fire weather has diminished.
Red flag warning issued for leeward areas of all islands
The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory covering most of Maui County and Hawaii island, effective until 6 a.m. Thursday. East winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph, are expected to whip around portions of Kahoolawe, Lanai, Maui and Hawaii island.
Red Flag Warning in effect for leeward parts of Hawaii until Thursday
HONOLULU (Island News) -- The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Red Flag Warning for the leeward areas across the state until Thursday. The weather alert comes as a warning from wind and low humidity to advise residents about fire conditions. The warning has been extended effect and will be in effect until Thursday, Dec. 12 at 6 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for leeward areas of all islands due to gusty winds and low relative humidity. The warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday.
