The Republican-controlled Idaho House of Representatives passed a bill Wednesday preventing the state, public schools, institutions of higher education, government officials, local units of government and health districts from mandating the use of masks to slow the spread of an infectious disease.

House Bill 1017, which would require school districts to accept cash payments for admission to school events, failed Thursday despite receiving 34 supporting votes and 32 dissenting votes on the House floor.

Both the Senate and House of Representatives have passed Gov. Bill Lee’s statewide expansion of school vouchers, otherwise known as the “Tennessee Education Freedom Act of 2025.”

The new Education Freedom Scholarship program will offer 20,000 scholarships of about $7,300 to Tennessee students to attend a school of their choice.
