A low-pressure system was expected to form as soon as Wednesday near south Texas, bringing the potential of snow to parts of the state that include Dallas,

The Tennessee Valley could see some of the heaviest snowfall, with 6 inches expected on Friday. A wide swath of the country is under winter weather warnings and advisories and will see impacts including "widespread closures, treacherous travel, scattered power outages, and downed branches," the weather service said.

Snow and ice will spread into the Southern Plains Wednesday night. Parts of north and west Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and southern Kansas are forecast to see snow. A band of sleet and freezing rain may stretch from central Texas into northern Louisiana and southern Arkansas.
