Tata Electronics said on Friday it has bought a 60% stake in Taiwanese contract manufacturer Pegatron's India unit that operates an iPhone plant, beefing up the Tata group firm's position as an Apple supplier in a fast growing market.

After reports last year, Tata Electronics has confirmed that it has acquired a controlling 60% stake in Pegatron Technology India. This strategic acquisition comes on the heels of Tata Electronics’ takeover of Wistron’s India operations in March 2024, signaling the conglomerate’s aggressive expansion in the electronics manufacturing sector.

Tata Electronics will now have two plants in the southern state of Tamil Nadu and one in neighbouring Karnataka, which it took over from Taiwan's Wistron last year.

The announcement is coming after the Competition Commission of India (CCI) gave an approval to Tata Electronics to acquire the majority stake in the company

Both Tata Electronics and Pegatron would integrate their teams, with Pegatron undergoing a rebranding as part of the collaboration as the part of the deal.
