Nearly 200 cases have been dismissed after a state trooper in North Carolina made statements that appeared to have been “false and misleading,” officials said. CBS affiliate WNCN said the trooper initially called into question was Garrett Lee Macario.

Wake District Attorney Lorrin Freeman said the investigation into two North Carolina State troopers relates to a fatal crash on Oct. 7 in Raleigh.

The US State Department has frozen nearly all foreign assistance worldwide effective immediately days after President Donald Trump issued a sweeping executive order Monday to put a hold on such assistance for 90 days.

District Attorney Lorrin Freeman said she "concluded that there were statements that were made by that trooper that appear to be false and misleading."
