Two New York men died recently after using bat poop as fertilizer to grow cannabis. Live Science reported that the 59 and 64-year-old men-both from Rochester-died after developing a rare lung condition called histoplasmosis.

One of the men, aged 59, had purchased bat guano online as a fertilizer, while the other, 64, planned to use guano he had found in a bat-infested attic in his home. They both suffered from symptoms including fever, chronic cough, significant weight loss, blood poisoning, and eventually, respiratory failure.

"Exposure to bat guano among cannabis growers appears to be a recent trend that can lead to histoplasmosis cases," researchers said.
