Athens saw a mix of light snow and freezing rain early Friday morning, creating a wintry scene across the Classic City. Grassy areas and rooftops were dusted with snow, while sidewalks and streets developed icy patches, making walking and driving tricky.

The break is on Pharr Road at the intersection of North Fulton Drive where there’s flooding in the road. This has the potential to be very dangerous in that area. The big concern is this freezing over when the temperatures drop. Atlanta Department of Watershed Department crews have been there throughout the overnight hours making emergency repairs.

A significant winter storm is expected to impact Atlanta, Georgia, and surrounding areas later this week. Impactful accumulations of snow, sleet and freezing rain from early Friday into early Saturday is likely.
