Tomlin tried to strike an upbeat tone, pointing out that Monday is a “trash bag” day for the 18 teams that didn't reach the playoffs as they packed up their belongings and eyed an uncertain future. The Steelers, for the 12th time in Tomlin's 18 seasons, are not a part of that group.

Rumors surrounding Mike Tomlin’s future with the Steelers have picked up once again. After uncertainty last year over whether the longtime coach would return to Pittsburgh, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on “Sunday NFL Countdown” that some NFL teams are wondering whether they should ask the Steelers if they would move on from Tomlin.
