State health officials confirmed a case of animal rabies in Cape Elizabeth after a raccoon tested positive for the virus.The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention issued a letter to the Cape Elizabeth town manager dated Friday noting that the test results of the raccoon came back positive.

In a press release shared Saturday, the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention says they identified a case of animal rabies in a raccoon in Cape Elizabeth. Humans can contract rabies if they're bitten or scratched by an infected animal.
