Kamal Haasan warns against the one nation, one election proposal, citing risks of dictatorship and loss of freedom in India.

One nation, one election proposal is ‘dangerous’, flawed and its scars still exist in some countries and hence it is not needed for India and it will not be required in future too, top actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam founder leader Kamal Haasan said here on Saturday.

Kamal Haasan, actor and founder of Makkal Needhi Maiam, criticized the 'One Nation, One Election' proposal, calling it dangerous and flawed. He argued it could lead to dictatorship and loss of freedom.

Kamal Haasan said that the democratic process a decade ago avoided embracing the concept of simultaneous polls and if not it could have severely harmed India's political diversity.

Haasan said had simultaneous polls been held in 2014 or 2015, it would have led to a complete sweep, resulting in dictatorship, loss of freedom of speech and dominance of a single leader
