Despite having his worst season since becoming a starter for the 49ers, Brock Purdy is viewed as a top 10 quarterback in 2024 from one outlet.

Among the leaders in APY (average per year) are Dallas’ Dak Prescott ($60 million), Jacksonville’s Trevor Lawrence ($55 million), Green Bay’s Jordan Love ($55 million) and Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa ($53.1 million). Purdy has more value to the 49ers than all of those players.

Purdy ranks fourth in the NFL in QBR (69.3), sixth in passing yards (9,075), first in yards per attempt (8.9), and seventh in passing touchdowns (61). However, the 49ers could choose to let Purdy play out the season and franchise tag him.

As the 49ers think about their future at the quarterback position, signing Brock Purdy to a long-term contract has become a must.

Regardless of what happens with his contract extension, Brock Purdy will be under significant pressure in 2025 as the San Francisco 49ers aim to bounce back from a severely underwhelming 2024. But he has already received a boost to his hopes of recapturing his 2023 best with a surprising decision from one of his most important coaches.
