Michigan State quarterback Aidan Chiles is talented but has a lot to learn. Coach Jonathan Smith gave an update on Chiles' progression after the team's first three games.

Chiles struggled in his first career start while being picked off twice without throwing a touchdown pass in a 16-10 win against Florida Atlantic in the opener. He didn’t attempt to mask his frustration and take two was a mixture of his high-level talent and inexperienced mistakes that made for an erratic but entertaining outing.

Michigan State capitalized on only one of its four trips to the red zone, with Chiles running the ball in for an 11-yard score in the first half. On another occasion, Chiles threw a goal-line interception. The run game, aside from a 63-yard touchdown by Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams, struggled to get going, too.
