The National Weather Service has simplified some of its winter weather alerts for Wind Chill and Extreme Cold Warnings.
Lead Meteorologist Derrick Snyder at the NWS Office in Paducah said the phenomenon is more common than people might think.
The images showed snow covering swathes of the Southern U.S. after what forecasters dubbed a "historic" snowstorm.
