Here’s how to vote for Illinois’ new state flag
Voting is open in the the new state flag design contest. The public can vote online at www.ilsos.gov/stateflag for one of the new designs, or for one of three flags that have already flown over the Land of Lincoln: the current state flag, the 1918 Centennial Flag and the 1968 Sesquicentennial Flag. Votes can be cast once a day through Feb. 14.

The flags up for a vote -- 13 in total -- include the 10 new finalists, along with the current version of the Illinois flag. It also includes Illinois' 1918 centennial flag, or 1968 sesquicentennial flag, officials said.

Voters can choose from 10 designs for a new flag, the current flag, the 1918 centennial flag or 1968 sesquicentennial flag. Individuals can vote for one flag once every 24 hours and may select the same or a different flag each day. To view the designs and vote, visit www.ilsos.gov/stateflag.
Ranking the New Illinois State Flag Designs
The red, white, and blue stands both for Old Glory and the tricolor of France, which also flew over the state. Lincoln’s profile and the state’s Mississippi River boundary face off nicely against each other — but they may be hard to identify from the top of a flagpole, knocking this option out of the top spot.
Illinois residents can now vote on new state flag design from finalists
Voting is open for people to speak out on whether to replace or retain the Illinois state flag. The Illinois Flag Commission unveiled its 10 finalists last month. It received almost 5,000 entries. Included among the designs were two previously used designs — the 1918 Centennial Flag and the 1968 Sesquicentennial Flag — and the emblem now in use.
