Philadelphia Eagles fans showed love to Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz after the NFC Championship Game.
Philadelphia and Washington met for a shot to advance to the Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans, and Ertz did his part for the Commanders, catching 11 passes for 104 yards to lead all players in both categories. Afterward, Ertz had a special moment with former teammate and friend Fletcher Cox.
Veteran Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz spent the first 8.5 seasons of his NFL career with the Philadelphia Eagles so it was a homecoming of sorts as those two teams squared off in the NFC championship game.
Ertz spent eight full seasons and 11 games of a ninth with the Philadelphia Eagles becoming the second-leading receiver in franchise history the process. Cox was around for his entire career. They became Super Bowl champions together. Sunday, following the NFC Championship Game, they shared an embrace. Try to fight the tears back on this one.
Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert has played well since returning from a knee injury. He now will face his former teammate when the Washington Commanders come to Lincoln Financial Field for Sunday's NFC Championship Game.
After so many lively postgame celebrations during its renaissance season, Washington on Sunday had tears, appreciation and a bit of hope.
Twelve years in, Ertz has built up quite a body of work. He passed Jimmy Graham and Greg Olsen and moved into sixth all-time among tight ends with 775 receptions. And he’s ninth with 8,088 yards and 12 th with 53 touchdowns.
The veteran tight end returns to Philadelphia this weekend to face the Eagles in the NFC title game as a valuable member of the Washington Commanders' high-scoring offense. Either Ertz or the team he spent his first 8 1/2 NFL seasons with is going to the Super Bowl.
