The nine-time WNBA All-Star center Brittney Griner announced on Instagram Tuesday that she agreed to join the Atlanta Dream in free agency

In a move that shakes up the WNBA, Brittney Griner is joining the Atlanta Dream in free agency after a decorated 11-season stint with the Phoenix Mercury.

Brittney Griner will leave a legendary legacy with the Mercury after playing 10 seasons with them, before signing with the Dream.

The Atlanta Dream have signed three-time All-Star Brionna Jones marking their second major free-agent acquisition of the offseason after adding 10-time All-Star Brittney Griner. Jones previously played with the Connecticut Sun. Jones' agent, Boris Lelchitski, confirmed the deal to ESPN's Alexa Philippou on Thursday.

The Storm have been a consistent playoff contender in recent years, highlighted by a three-game sweep of the Las Vegas Aces in the 2020 WNBA Finals. The franchise heads into the 2025 season with $712,377 of cap space and the potential loss of six-time All-Star guard and two-time champion Jewel Loyd, who asked for a trade last month.

Teams in need of a center will obviously be the favorites for Griner. Teaira McCowan and Kalani Brown are the Wings centers. McCowan is one of the better centers in the league, and Dallas may be hesitant to move on from her. The opportunity to add Griner may cause them to consider the possibility, though.
