The New Orleans Pelicans took the Boston Celtics to the wire three weeks ago, losing when CJ McCollum’s floater at the buzzer didn’t go in.

CJ McCollum would much rather have written this chapter of the New Orleans Pelicans' record book in a victory.

CJ McCollum highlighted a 45-point performance with 3-pointers and reverse layups in the clutch. Dejounte Murray's relentless pressure on both ends of the court left him one rebound short of a triple-double.

CJ McCollum is not looking at this as a lost season for the struggling New Orleans Pelicans. When the Pelicans play the host Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night, McCollum will be coming off his second 45-plus-point performance this month.

The Pelicans came back down 25 points and defeated the Jazz, and it was CJ McCollum who made franchise history during the win.

McCollum has shouldered more of the scoring load in games the Pelicans have been without Zion Williamson. He is averaging 30.6 points in January in the seven games Williamson has missed. McCollum is averaging just 13 points in the four games Williamson also played.

New Orleans takes on the Memphis Grizzlies after CJ McCollum scored 45 points in the Pelicans' 123-119 overtime victory over the Utah Jazz.

Jaylen Brown scored 28 points and Jayson Tatum added 27, including a tie-breaking jumper with 0.2 seconds left, as the visiting Boston Celtics held off the New Orleans Pelicans 118-116 on Friday night.

Tatum had 22 points through three quarters before being held in check for much of the fourth. But the Celtics went to him after CJ McCollum’s tying basket with 24 seconds left, and he hit the eventual winner over McCollum from the left wing.
