An autopsy found no traumatic injuries in a man who died in police custody after he was detained for allegedly stabbing another person at a North Portland convenience store, police said Thursday.

A suspect arrested for a stabbing in Portland died while in police custody, and the incident is currently under investigation by the Portland Police Homicide Unit.

Officers arrived at the convenience store, at North Interstate Avenue and Going Street, shortly after 10 p.m. to find a man who had been stabbed, the Portland Police Bureau said in a statement. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to recover.

The man was detained in handcuffs "without resistance or force used," police said. He "lost consciousness" and police officers began CPR, but the man died.
