Activists are gearing up for protests around the world to demand action on climate change just as a pair of major weeklong climate events were getting underway in New York City

New York is hosting Climate Week NYC, an annual event that promotes climate action, at the same time the UN General Assembly takes up the issue on several fronts.

The Fridays for Future protest called for a focus on ending production of oil, gas and coal at the annual gathering that coincides with the U.N. General Assembly session.

The theme for this year's event, which is the largest climate affair of its kind, is "it's time." The climate networking mega-fair consists of eight days of more than 600 events and connects the public with the most influential activists,
