The House has passed its income and sales tax cut bill package. it now heads to the Senate for further consideration.

A bill that phases out the state income tax, cuts the state grocery tax and raises sales taxes and gasoline taxes has passed the Mississippi House with a bipartisan vote.

A Mississippi bill looking to eliminate the income tax is gaining traction in Jackson. It’s passed in the House and is expected to pass the Senate.

The plan would reduce the state’s $7 billion general fund by $1.1 billion over 10 years. Losses would be partially offset by increases in sales and gas taxes.
