Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison says his office is suing weapons manufacturer Glock Inc. for turning a "blind eye, again and again" to the carnage in recent years connected to tiny "switch" devices that can easily convert the company's semi-automatic handguns into fully-automatic machine guns.

As of this publishing, Ellison's office hasn't said which company is involved in Thursday's announcement, which is set for 10 a.m.

Ellison said the “switches” are as small as a coin, typically cost less than $10 and can be installed on Glock handguns with the ease of changing batteries in a remote control. He says they can also be made with a 3D printer in less than 30 minutes. He wants the company to stop manufacturing the device.

In the complaint, Attorney General Ellison outlines that Glock has known since its creation in 1988 that its semi-automatic handguns can be easily converted into illegal machine guns.

MINNEAPOLIS — Attorney General Keith Ellison announced Thursday, Dec. 12, that he will sue gunmaker Glock for a handgun model that allows consumers to convert their weapon from a semi-automatic gun to a fully automatic gun.

Keith Ellison says the firearms manufacturer has known for decades how easy it is to modify its handguns but neglected to take action and solve the problem.

New Jersey and Minnesota sued Glock on Thursday, calling on the gunmaker to stop selling firearms that can be adapted with dime-sized switches to fire up to 1,200 rounds a minute.
