CU has some history with the Thorpe. Soon after Deion Sanders won it at Florida State in 1988, Colorado greats Deon Figures and Chris Hudson took home the award in 1992 and 1994, respectively.

Kordell Stewart, Michael Westbrook and Deon Figures popped to mind. There’s many others but all fall short. Buff fans said goodbye, arguably, to two of the best players in school history.

Figures was an integral part of CU's lone national championship in 1990, recording a career-high 85 tackles as a sophomore. But, his senior season, in 1992, is when he stood out the most.
