The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall across most areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning at isolated locations.

According to the IMD bulletin on Dec. 12, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are very likely to witness isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall.

The regional weather office has forecast more spells of rain in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengelpet and Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur districts in the state, besides the neighbouring union territory Puducherry.

The IMD reported a cyclonic circulation over the Andaman Sea, expected to develop into a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal

Chennai and other districts, including Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Villuppuram, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Tiruchirappalli, Sivaganga, and Ramanathapuram, are also likely to experience heavy rain at isolated locations.

An orange alert has been issued for very heavy rain in Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, and Cuddalore districts on Tuesday

The IMD predicts dense fog in late night/early morning in Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh until December 17. Due to fog, the visibility may go down to less than 50 metres

According to the update, squally weather with wind speed 35 kmph to 45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph is likely to prevail along and off South Tamil Nadu coast.
