Boom XB-1 Jet Breaks Sound Barrier, Paving Way for Supersonic Passenger Planes (Again)
Boom Supersonic’s XB-1 aircraft has become the first independently developed jet to break the sound barrier, bringing supersonic passenger planes (back) closer to reality. Reaching over 35,000 feet, the “Baby Boom” plane took off from the Mojave Air and Space Port on January 28, reaching Mach 1.122 for the first time—around 750 miles per hour.
