Wolf Moon and Mars: How to See January 2025 Full Moon With the Red Planet
The Wolf Moon will reach its peak fullness at 5:27 p.m. Eastern Time on January 13. It will rise in the sky about an hour earlier, at 4:28 p.m. ET, and remain visible until 8:09 a.m. ET the next morning. For those outside the Eastern Time Zone, the timing will vary slightly, but the Wolf Moon will dominate the night skies across the country.
There was a straight shot from Earth to the Moon and Mars last night
So I grabbed my camera, ran outside, and looked up just as Mars was supposed to emerge from the Moon's curved horizon. Seen with the naked eye, the Moon's brightness far outshined Mars, casting soft shadows on a cold winter evening in East Texas.
How to watch the Wolf moon's occultation of Mars in Boston
In Boston and surrounding towns, this phenomenon will occur between 9:26 p.m. and 10:42 p.m. (disappearance and reappearance times). While it will be easy to see the moon and Mars early in the evening with the naked eye, watching the actual occultation will require a bit of hardware, say binoculars or a telescope.
