Senator Susan Collins, Republican of Maine, said she questioned President-elect Donald J. Trump’s pick to lead the Pentagon on the misconduct allegations against him and other topics.

Collins said she pressed Hegseth on both military policy and allegations of heavy drinking and mistreatment of women, including a rape allegation made in 2017, but she has not decided whether to support him.

The meeting with Collins was closely watched as she is seen as more likely than most of her Republican Senate colleagues to vote against some of Trump’s picks.
