You can find out what's in your Drive folders without opening them by reading an AI summary and chat with Gemini about the files inside. But those chats may be seen by Google.

With the feature, you can open a folder and select the new “Summarize this folder” button at the top of the page. Gemini will then give you a breakdown of the folder’s contents. As noted by Google, you can use Gemini to find specific files inside a folder,

Google highlighted the rollout of Gemini in Drive, which aims to help summarize a user's folders, documents, spreadsheets, and more. Users can write their query for a folder in Drive's side panel or they can navigate to a folder and hit the "summarize folder" button.

Writing on the Workspace Updates blog, Google said Drive users will now be able to leverage Gemini to summarize entire folders. It's currently limited to the web version of Gemini, with Google not saying if or when it intends to roll it out to the Drive mobile apps.
