A pensioner says his insurers have ‘done a complete u-turn’ after he complained when they refused a pay-out for Storm Darragh damage to his home - because the wind speed was 2mph ‘too slow’ to be a storm.

A pensioner was refused a payout for Storm Darragh's damage to his home after his insurers said the winds were "2mph too slow". Dennis Iliffe, 77, was left stunned when his insurance company told him they could not settle his claim because wind speeds in his home town did not hit 55mph.

People are continuing to count the cost of Storm Darragh - but one man was told by his insurers it was not actually a storm at all. Dennis Iliffe was initially refused a pay-out because wind speeds in his home town of Kidderminster only hit 53 mph.
