The Royal Canadian Navy has identified the victim of last week's tragedy, saying Petty Officer Second Class Gregory Applin was a 19-year veteran of the force.

Commodore Jacob French, commander of Canadian Fleet Atlantic, told reporters in a news conference on Monday that Petty Officer 2nd Class Gregory Applin was a crew member of HMCS Montreal.

Members of the Royal Canadian Navy say the sailor who died after the inflatable boat he was on capsized was HMCS Montreal member Gregory Attwood.
