A blast of snow, ice, wind, and plunging temperatures created dangerous travel conditions in parts of the central US on Sunday, and some places were expected to get 8 inches of snow or more.

A major winter storm forecast to produce heavy snow, significant ice and frigid temperatures was set to begin in the central U.S. on Saturday and move east over the next several days, according to the National Weather Service.

A massive winter storm is expected to bring snow and ice to the Central Plains before spreading eastward toward to the mid-Atlantic.
