A suspicious car left running outside Bellevue's Crossroads Mall that was the center of an hours-long investigation was finally removed.

Police in Cary called in the bomb squad Thursday after someone brought a family member’s potentially explosive device to the police department. Just after 3:30 pm, officers were notified about the presence of the device, according to a news release.

Initial reports indicated that a hand grenade was either discovered or dropped off at the hot dog stand at Grand Avenue and Pulaski Road. Kris Habermehl reports from CBS Skywatch.

The bomb squad was called about a "suspicious object" inside a bag near a restaurant in the 4000 block of West Grand Avenue around 4:20 p.m., Chicago police said. Police would not say what the object was.
