On Wednesday (Jan. 29), a jury saw video of a police investigator telling the man who shot Ahmaud Arbery to death that he wasn’t going to be arrested. The suspect, along with his father and a neighbor, followed and killed Arbery after they saw him running in their neighborhood.

Jackie Johnson will go to trial three years after the hate-crime killing of 25-year-old Arbery, who was hunted down and killed by three armed white men in Brunswick.

At the time Ahmaud Arbery was killed, Jackie Johnson had served for a decade as district attorney for the Brunswick Judicial Circuit. Greg McMichael worked in her office as an investigator before retiring in 2019.

The case against a former Georgia district attorney charged with discouraging police from arresting the man who killed Ahmaud Arbery in 2020 took a blow Thursday as a police supervisor testified that the accused prosecutor never obstructed her during the investigation.
