The WA Sydney Swans Supporters Club, who support the AFL team they love from 3,000 kilometres away, have been awarded Supporter Group of the Year for the club's sense of community and inclusivity.

Sydney have crushed Port Adelaide by 36 points in a lopsided AFL preliminary final at the SCG, cruising into the grand final. The Swans seized control in the second quarter, with Isaac Heeney starring as his side prevailed 14.

Isaac Heeney (23 disposals, 12 contested possessions, two goals) produced another September masterclass, while fellow Swans star midfielders Errol Gulden (27 touches, 592 metres gained) and Chad Warner (21 disposals, two goals) were also on fire.

The Swans last played in a grand final in 2022, but lost to the Geelong Cats. The Lions won the two previous grand finals in 2002 and 2001. They made it to the grand final last year, but lost to Collingwood.

Remarkably it will be a 125-year rematch (of sorts), as the last time the Swans and Lions faced off for the flag was the 1899 VFL Grand Final, back when both clubs were based in Victoria as South Melbourne and Fitzroy respectively.

Sydney Swans veteran Dane Rampe is free to play in the grand final, after he was penalised for high contact on Zak Butters.The two men came together with eight minutes left in the first quarter between the Swans and Port Adelaide.

The AFL grand final is always one of the biggest events on the Australian sports calendar. Traditionally held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, most players are lucky to reach the annual decider even once in their careers.
