We paid for a guided tour at the site and Wilson, our tour guide was amazing. You start with a fun multimedia presentation and then you explore the grounds and then the restored great house. Full review by Familyonthetown

Hi Alan, You can catch the public bus (BT or EE), from the George Town Bus Depot (beside the public library). This is just a 5 min walk from the main Cruise Terminal (the Royal Watler Cruise Terminal). The public bus will take you to Pedro St. James. The cost is USD$3.00 per person each way. You can also get a taxi from the Cruise Terminal. However, they can be expensive and prices vary depending on the day and the driver (approx $40 each way). Guided Tours start every hour on the hour, from 9AM – 4PM, and are usually 1.5hrs. Self-Guided Tours can come at any time from 8:30AM – 4:30PM (the facility closes at 5:00PM). Kids aged 0-5 are free. Guided Tours start every hour on the hour, from 9AM – 4PM, and usually take 1.5hrs - 2hrs to complete. Self-Guided Tours can come at any time from 8:30AM – 4:30PM (the facility closes at 5:00PM). It is up to you how long you spend at the attraction. It is a 20min ride from George Town. So if you are planning a trip here on a cruise, please allow at least 3hrs minimum to complete everything, including transport. You can get the public bus here or a taxi. The public bus depot is located in George Town (beside the library), and is just 5 mins walking distance from the main Royal Watler Cruise Terminal. You can catch the BT or EE bus to Pedro St. James.
