What a tremendous place to drive for fall color. We, unfortunately, had to make the drive in cloudy and rainy weather due to a traveling time table. Even in those conditions, it was greatFull review by Chuck2010

The river is a popular camping destination and swimming hole. Portions are paralleled by grave roads but access points are pretty limited. Float potential is good if you plan ahead..Full review by Doug K

The highway through the Dolores River Canyon south of Gateway is CO 141. CO 145 continues on east from Naturita and loops up the San Miquel River near Telluride and on south to Cortez via Rico, Stoner and Dolores. These last three towns are in the valley of Dolores Creek and the headwaters of the Dolores River (along with West Dolores Creek).
You can try hwy 491, which used to be hwy 666 (depends how old your map is) , Its about 10 miles north of Cortez to get to the Delores river canyon. Check the map again.. Texas..
