I plan to be in Auckland for 3 full days and I believe I will go to the Auckland Musuem on Oct 27 or 28, 2018. I am wondering if I need to get tickets to the Maori performance in advance or the day I go to the musuem. I plan to be at the museum first thing in the morning around 10am when it opens. Any advice or opinion would be welcomed. Thanks.

I think you can buy them at the entrance in the foyer as we did for some overseas friends. Maybe you could search trip advisor to see if you can buy tickets via. If you want your 3 days planned. A tour may be available that takes you to attractions which could include the show and welcoming. I am still learning to navigate the app. We have buses and Uber . You may like to try looking up Auckland transport which gives routes and times of buses near the area. Auckland museum does have a website and a booking system you would be able to find it through fb, Twitter or find their website. Auckland war memorial museam. Or try Auckland council web site. Have fun enjoy.

20 mins up hill. There is a free red bus that goes from Queen St (Auckland's main st) or Britomart terminus just 100m or so from cruise terminals. Alternatively you could take the Link bus for a couple of bucks. The free red bus or the link bus take you to all the main city sites and cruise ships dock right downtown so don't bother with expensive shore excursions. Locals are friendly and will be happy to point you in the right direction. Viaduct Harbour is also a short walk from the docks. you can see the old steam tug William c daldy there. ask for a look around. still coal fired and operational. :)
